Human Resources Development
Administrative Unit 07 is the central department for human resources development for all employees at the University of Bremen. We offer qualification and continuing education programmes, counselling, coaching, organisational and team development, and target group-specific networking programmes.

Career Development for Researcher
BYRD is the support center for early-career researchers at the University of Bremen. We are the central contact point for doctoral candidates, post-docs as well as established researchers seeking information and support for further training, networking, and consulting.

Gender-equitable Career Development
We offer programs aimed at gender and diversity-oriented personnel development for women, trans-, inter- and non-binary researchers like doctoral candidates, postdocs and junior professors. Funding Advisory Service
Funding Advisory Service offers counselling on all matters related to research proposals for national and EU funding programmes. Weather you look for information about funding for your own Postdoc position or are planning a collaborative research project we will support you in all phases of the application process.

Research Funding
The Central Research Development Fund (CRDF) of the University of Bremen offers financial support for your research. We give advice on our eight funding lines with varied funding objectives and attend to approved project over their duration.

Open Access & publishing
SuUB supports academics in publishing their research results and offer a variety of resources and services to facilitate the publication process. Our services include workshops, training and advice on specific topics such as open access publishing, financing and archiving.

Research Data Management
Data Train is a central, multidisciplinary training program of the U Bremen Research Alliance to boost data literacy. Data Train offers a wide range of free learning and networking opportunities for early career researchers. Since November 2023, Data Train is part of DataNord, the interdisciplinary data competence center for the Bremen region.

Digital Support
The ZMML is the university's central e-learning center. We inform, advise and support all members of the university in the planning, design and implementation of digital teaching activities and offer target group-specific training in all aspects of e-learning.

Go Abroad
With the aim of promoting international skills, the International Office offers university employees the opportunity to take part in training measures via Erasmus-funded staff mobility in Europe. This can take place at an Erasmus partner university or another European educational institution.

YUFE Staff Journey
The university alliance YUFE consists of 10 European universities and offers staff development opportunities for research and teaching staff and members of administration and management. International seminars and workshops (online and on-site) enable staff members to visit trainings across borders.

Learning languages
The Language Centre of the Universities in the Land of Bremen has courses, workshops, language coaching and writing consultations for administrative, research and teaching staff at the university. There are 22 languages in our program as well as professional guidance for independent learning goals.

Higher Education Didactics
The Office of Higher Education Didactics & Teaching Innovation develops and bundle the university's higher education didactics offerings. We provide the certification program for higher education didactics qualification, teaching coaching for newly appointed university instructors, individual consultation on didactic aspects and teaching innovation, as well as workshops for all instructors on the design of teaching and learning.

Start-up Support
BRIDGE, located in the UniTransfer department, is the central contact point for students, doctoral candidates, alumni and members of the University of Bremen on the topic of business start-ups. The BRIDGE university network has set itself the goal of improving the start-up climate at all participating universities and promoting promising ideas with start-up potential at an early stage.

Additional Guidance on professional dDevelopment & Careers
Annual appraisals are regular meetings between staff members and their supervisors. They serve to reflect on the past year, assess collaboration, and make new agreements for the year ahead. A key focus of the meeting is the personal and professional development of employees. It also offers an opportunity to exchange feedback and align expectations.

moreTo promote political, professional, and general continuing education, the Bremen Educational Leave Act (Bremisches Bildungszeitgesetz – “Bildungszeit”) entitles all employees in the state of Bremen to 10 days of educational leave within a two-year period (formerly known as “Bildungsurlaub”). This leave allows participation in recognized educational programs while continuing to receive pay from the employer. The course content does not need to be directly related to the employee’s job. Course fees are generally paid by the participant.

The Workplace Health Management (WHM) program aims to create a work environment that promotes health. On the one hand, it focuses on analyzing working conditions in terms of health-related stress factors and resources. On the other hand, it seeks to empower employees to lead a healthy lifestyle.
