University rankings

University rankings have become an established feature both in Germany and internationally, even though their validity and methodology remain subject to ongoing debate. They aim to assess and compare the quality of research and teaching at universities based on various quantitative indicators, such as publication output, third-party funding, and the level of internationalisation. While rankings only provide a limited view of the diverse achievements and unique characteristics of universities, they can nevertheless serve as a useful point of reference for prospective students, researchers, and decision-makers as they navigate the complex landscape of higher education.
