University rankings
University rankings have become an established feature both in Germany and internationally, even though their validity and methodology remain subject to ongoing debate. They aim to assess and compare the quality of research and teaching at universities based on various quantitative indicators, such as publication output, third-party funding, and the level of internationalisation. While rankings only provide a limited view of the diverse achievements and unique characteristics of universities, they can nevertheless serve as a useful point of reference for prospective students, researchers, and decision-makers as they navigate the complex landscape of higher education.

This initiative is committed to recognizing the full breadth and diversity of science and higher education, honouring much more than what is reflected in numbers and rankings alone. It highlights that achievements and values which cannot be captured by quantitative measures also merit recognition. The statement explains in more detail what distinguishes the University of Bremen beyond its ranking.
