Application process

To apply as a first-year student for the winter semester, you must register with Hochschulstart. After registering with Hochschulstart, you will receive your applicant identification number (BID) and applicant authentication number (BAN). You then register on the University of Bremen's online portal "moin". Here you must enter the BID and BAN you received from Hochschulstart.

Please note that you cannot log in to the University of Bremen's online portal with your Hochschulstart user data. University students cannot create an application account, but instead log in with their ZfN access data (such as for Stud.IP) to submit applications.

For all those who are not yet studying at the University of Bremen:

  • If you do not yet have an application account, please register first under the menu item "Create new account".
  • You will then receive the access data for your application account by e-mail.
  • Once you have received your access data, please log in to the portal.
  • In the next step, please change your initial password.
  • Next, please complete the details to determine your responsibility and select an application procedure.
  • Complete the online application in full and send it electronically to the University of Bremen.
  • You will then receive a confirmation by e-mail.

Advanced applicants and applicants for the first year for the summer semester can only apply via the University of Bremen's online portal "moin". When am I considered advanced?

Applicants for the trial degree programme only apply via the University of Bremen's online portal "moin" and select Studying without Abitur in the application process.

The following deadlines are cut-off deadlines for all Bachelor's degree programmes and the Law degree programme (First State Examination).

- For the winter semester: 15 July
- For the summer semester: 15 January

The deadlines apply to first-year students as well as to advanced students and former graduates. Applications for admission received later will not be considered.

You can find all the information on this page.

Selection procedure: NC and programme-specific requirements

Program-specific prerequisites are requirements that must be fulfilled before you can start and successfully complete your studies. You can find all information on this on this page.

Under NC values you will find the limit values from the latest authorisation procedures.

No, the average grade is not improved.
20% of places are allocated according to waiting time. The waiting period is the period after the Abitur during which the applicant did not study in Germany: For example, an applicant goes abroad as an au pair for a year after leaving school or does a three-year apprenticeship: This results in 2 or 6 waiting semesters.

A maximum of 7 waiting semesters will be considered.

Applications with the same waiting period are sorted according to the average grade. In the event of a tie, applicants who have completed a recognised period of service will be given preference. In the event of another tie, the decision will be made by lot. Waiting times are accumulated regardless of whether you have actually applied for a place.

Further detailed information on the NC can be found on our page on the admission procedure.

Improvement of the average grade
Special reasons in the person of the applicant for which he/she is not responsible and which prevented him/her from achieving a better grade point average. This includes applicants who were prevented from achieving the full academic performance possible through no fault of their own. (PLEASE ENCLOSE SCHOOL REPORT)

Improvement of the waiting time
Special reasons in the person of the applicant for which he/she is not responsible and which prevented him/her from achieving a better waiting time. This includes applicants who were prevented from obtaining a higher education entrance qualification earlier due to circumstances beyond their control. (PLEASE ENCLOSE SCHOOL REPORT)

Only in the case of equal ranking, i.e. the same average grade and number of waiting semesters, will applicants with a recognised period of service be given preference.

The period of service completed after obtaining the university entrance qualification is automatically counted as a waiting period.

You may be entitled to preferential admission:

Questions about the online application form

1st semester:
- You are starting a completely new degree program
- You are switching to a completely new subject without creditable achievements
- You are switching to a subject in a multi-subject degree program (2-subject BA or teaching degree) and have no creditable achievements in the new subject

2nd-6th semester
- You have already studied the same degree program and the same subjects at another university
- You have already studied a related subject and have creditable achievements

You can find all information here.

For technical reasons, all degree programmes that are awarded in cooperation with Hochschulstart.de are always marked as "restricted admission", even if they are admission-free. If you apply within the application deadline and fulfil all admission requirements, you are guaranteed a place on the course.

You can check whether your degree programme is admission-free and whether any programme-specific requirements need to be met in the degree programmes offered by the University of Bremen.

Please leave the "Subject" field blank in the search mask. Instead, select "Bachelor Lehramt Grundschule/Inklusive P?dagogik" or "Bachelor Lehramt Gymnasium/Oberschule" or "Bachelor Lehramt Gymnasium/Oberschule Inklusive P?dagogik/Sonderp?dagogik" as the type of degree and enter "1" for the subject semester.

Some of the study places for Elementary Mathematics, German and Digital Media are allocated according to the so-called qualified average grade, i.e. the overall average grade in the Abitur certificate is offset against the average grade in certain school subjects. This grade is used to form a third ranking list in the NC procedure, which is used to allocate 60% of the study places, for more information see www.uni-bremen.de/nc

Cases:

  • The subject is listed in each of the four half-year grades and as the Abitur grade on my certificate: Please enter exactly these 5 grades.
  • I only had the school subject for four semesters, what grade do I enter in the fifth field? Please enter the overall grade point average stated in your school leaving certificate.
  • I did not have an artistic subject (art, music, performing arts) at school, what grade do I enter? Please enter the overall grade point average stated on your school leaving certificate.
  • I have already completed a degree programme and entered the grade of my first degree as the grade of my university entrance qualification (HZB) - which school subject grades do I enter? Please enter the converted overall grade of the first degree programme in all subject grade fields.
  • I have a higher education entrance qualification via a vocational qualification - which subject grades do I enter? Please always enter the converted grade of your professional qualification that leads to the university entrance qualification.

For technical reasons, it is necessary to enter your study history for each application. We apologise for this inconvenience.

You will often be asked about your previous studies in various steps of the online application, even though you may have already answered this question. We apologise for this inconvenience. The information is required in the online application for technical reasons in the background.

The status "Gültig" is transmitted when the applications are released by the university. At the University of Bremen, this release only takes place when the application deadline has passed (i.e. after 15 July). The status that you can see in the University of Bremen's online portal is important. If this status is "Teilnahme am Vergabeverfahren", your application is complete and can be released after the application deadline. It will then receive the status "Gültig" on Hochschulstart.

A withdrawn application does not take part in the award procedure.

A new application with the same choice of subject cannot be submitted. Instead, you must reactivate the withdrawn application.

Please send an e-mail to bachelorprotect me ?!vw.uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de. The Student Administration Office will then reopen your application for processing.

Please do not withdraw your application and do not start a new application with the same study programme.

Admission notifications are generated every working day in the morning by the Student Administration Office. As this is not an automated process, you will not receive a notification automatically and immediately after the status of your application has changed to "admitted".

You will be informed by email when the notification is available.

For example, if you actively accept an offer of admission on Monday at 13:00 or this is automatically converted into an admission, the notification will not be generated until Tuesday morning. The 7-day period does not begin until you have received the letter of admission.
