Public Engagement
The Public Engagement department strengthens science at the University of Bremen, which cooperates with actors in society. Through targeted advice and services related to format and concept development, qualification and network building, researchers are supported in entering into productive exchanges with society. The focus is on transdisciplinary and participatory research processes, Citizen Science, dialogue-oriented formats of science communication and long-term collaborations with non-university actors.

Young Interaction Groups
The Public Engagement and Young Interaction Groups department aims to cultivate enthusiasm for scientific topics and scientific work among young people and offers events designed for specific target audiences across different age groups. We provide insights into scientific topics and working methods and highlight the diverse opportunities that science and the University of Bremen have to offer. This not only demonstrates the relevance of the topics, but also opens up potential career prospects.
We offer low-threshold conditions for all event organizers and support scientists in planning their events. To ensure that all groups are addressed in a way that is tailored to their needs and easy to understand, this includes relevant training and advice for organizers on how to structure and design their events. In this way, we help scientists communicate their work to the public in a dialogue-oriented manner, thereby contributing to the transfer of knowledge to society.

Public Engagement & Participation
The Public Engagement & Participation department is the central point of contact for members of the University of Bremen who
- want to integrate transdisciplinary or participatory approaches (e.g., Citizen Science) into research,
- are looking for advice on suitable communication and participation formats,
- need support with concept development, applications or funding options,
- want to expand their skills through training opportunities in transdisciplinary or participatory research and science communication,
- want to acquire internal or external cooperation partners for joint transdisciplinary or participatory projects.
External actors receive information about opportunities for collaboration with researchers, e.g., in the field of transdisciplinary research and Citizen Science, participation in network and participatory and dialogue-oriented formats.
The ultimate goal is to establish transdisciplinary research, participatory research such as Citizen Science, and public engagement as integral components of the university profile through strategic development, professional consulting, qualification, sustainable networks and action-oriented formats.

Competence Center for Women in Science and Technology
The work of the Competence Center for Women in Science and Technology focuses on three areas:
- Career and study orientation for girls and women in the field of natural sciences and technical professions
- Study support and career transition for female students in these subjects
- Research, consulting and public relations.
The goals are interdisciplinary study orientation, the creation of diverse pathways into higher education as well as the improvement of academic success and career transition for female students in natural science and technical science programs at the University of Bremen.
As a visible point of contact for information and counseling services both within and outside the University of Bremen, the Competence Center aims to improve the transfer of knowledge regarding gender-equitable study reform measures, to bundle existing measures and to ensure the quality-assured integration of the measures into the regular program by providing counseling for science and technology degree programs. Within the University of Bremen, departments 1-5 are involved in the initiatives.
