The “Memory” of the University: 25 Years of the University Archive

The University of Bremen Archive is turning 25. To mark the occasion, it is hosting an open house.

Sigrid Dauks, director of the University of Bremen Archive: “The archive is much more than a place for files; It is the memory of our university – open, vibrant, and future-oriented. It is full of stories not only about the development of the institution, but also about the people who have shaped it and continue to shape it. We are delighted to look back on 25 years of archival and remembrance work together with the public.”

Since 2000, the university archive has been preserving everything produced by the University of Bremen in the areas of administration, research, and teaching. Today, it comprises over 55,000 items, of which more than 38,000 have been catalogued, including around 12,000 files, 2,670 posters, 3,720 leaflets, more than 5,100 theses, and around 9,500 brochures, newspapers, and magazines. With around 2,200 meters of shelf space – of which around 1,545 meters are already occupied – the archive is a central repository of university knowledge.
