Data Analytics in Focus: DSC Hosts World Café in the Data Community Club

At the Data Community Club meeting on 22 October, the team from the Data Science Center hosted an interactive World Café on current topics in Data Analytics – bringing together lively discussions, expert insights, and new perspectives.

The Data Community Clubwas established as part of the BMFTR-funded interdisciplinary data competency center “DataNord”. It connects data experts and enthusiasts from all disciplines and provides a space for exchange on research data management, data science, and related topics. Its regular meetings focus on discussing different practical approaches, challenges, and solutions with the goal of strengthening data literacy across the entire research data lifecycle.

On 22 October 2025, the Data Science Center (DSC) at the University of Bremen organized the autumn meeting of the Data Community Club – this time in an interactive World Café format. Researchers, data professionals, and interested community members joined to explore key topics in Data Analytics and learn from one another in rotating discussion rounds.

Five thematic tables formed the core of the event, each led by experts from the U Bremen Research Alliance and supported by moderators from the DSC team:

  • Machine Learning
Experts: Dr. Sonja H?nzelmann & Dr. Susana Simancas Giraldo (AWI); Moderator: Annika Nolte
  • Responsible Use of AI
Expert: Dr. Max Westphal (Fraunhofer MEVIS); Moderator: Sarah Büker
  • Generative AI
Expert: Floriann Deepika Louis (AWI); Moderator: Dr. Susanne de Vogel
  • Statistical Methods
Expert: Dr. Martin Scharpenberg (KKSB, University of Bremen); Moderator: Dr. Maryam Movahedifar
  • Natural Language Processing
Expert: Johanna Rockstroh (Digital Media Lab, University of Bremen); Moderator: Dr. Lena Steinmann

Participants took part in two 30-minute discussion rounds, sharing experiences, exploring challenges, and identifying opportunities and next steps. The key insights were later brought together in a final plenary session, offering valuable impulses for continued collaboration within the data community.

The World Café created an open, collegial atmosphere that encouraged participants to share expertise, learn from one another, and gather fresh inspiration for their research and data practices.
