From 22 to 25 September 2025, the Joint Plenary 2025 von NFDI4Biodiversity und NFDI4Earth took place at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen. The event brought together researchers, data stewards, and practitioners working with biodiversity and environmental data to exchange ideas and discuss current challenges in research data management.
The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) connects scientific communities across Germany to ensure that research data remains discoverable, interoperable, and reusable over the long term. The Joint Plenary offered an important space for strengthening collaboration between different consortia and developing shared data management approaches.
The Data Science Center (DSC) contributed to the programme with an interactive workshop delivered as part of the BMFTR-funded project “Interdisciplinary Data Literacy Center for the Bremen Region – DataNord”.
Under the title “From Data to Interactive Maps: Visualization Workflows with Geospatial Data from PANGAEA”, Sarah and Annika presented Python-based workflows for processing and visualizing geospatial data. Participants learned how to access research data via the PANGAEA Data Publisher for Earth & Environmental Science API and explored the complete workflow from data retrieval and preprocessing to the creation of interactive maps using Python.
The workshop material are openly available on GitHub.
