This time, the awarding of the DSC Seed Grant supported the implementation of ICYMARE 2025, which is going to take place from September 8 to 12 at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. ICYMARE (short for “International Conference for Young MArine REsearchers”) is an annual conference aimed specifically at early-career marine scientists. The event of the Bremen Society for Natural Sciences (NWV) is organized voluntarily from the bottom up by young marine researchers themselves.
The conference offers young scientists the opportunity to learn about new research findings and engage in discussions on current developments in marine sciences. In addition, students and doctoral candidates can use the multi-day event to gain their first conference experiences and build an international network. In 2024, for instance, ICYMARE brought together participants from over 30 countries worldwide.
The conference program includes different formats covering current findings and projects from all areas of marine research, ranging from marine ecology, biodiversity, and oceanography to climate protection, sustainable marine use, and governance. This year, the DSC Seed Grant supports the implementation of several workshops and a poster session, providing participants with the opportunity to gain experience in managing and presenting research data.
