In the series of the Transatlantic Dialogues on Climate Change and Health, organised by the World Health Organization WHO, Regional Office for Europe, and the Pan American Health Organization PAHO, the “Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change and Health Impacts in Situations of Vulnerability” took place on 16.07.2025.
In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Bolte introduced the climate justice model she developed and used evidence from Europe to show the significance of social inequalities for exposure to climate change impacts such as heat and air pollutants, as well as for adaptation capacities. She discussed how justice aspects can be fundamentally embedded in climate change adaptation measures.
Prof. Ana Diez Roux from Drexel University, USA, then presented the results of the SALURBAL climate study on urban health inequities. Representatives from Italy, Sweden, Canada, and Brazil used national examples to show how climate adaptation can be carried out while taking equity issues into account.
In the concluding discussion, future challenges and opportunities were identified.
