Teaming Up.
Moderated peer coaching for doctoral researchers in all disciplines
NEW GROUP STARTING IN JANUARY 2026. APPLY UNTIL DECEMBER 16th.
Doctoral Research is an exciting, enriching, innovative, and creative endeavor, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. The Teaming Up format offers you the opportunity to exchange ideas with other doctoral researchers, share experiences, and receive meaningful support along your personal path to a doctorate. Collaborating in a group often sparks fresh perspectives, deeper insights, and new courses of action—bringing greater clarity, boosting motivation, and helping you move closer to your goals.
Target group: Doctoral candidates at the University of Bremen from all disciplines and stages of their PhD project who are interested in self-reflection and exchange with peers.
Program language: English, but simply as a means to communicate, no perfectly polished language skills necessary.
Procedure
Our moderated collegial coaching supports you individually on your path through self-reflection, shifting perspectives, and constructive feedback. The regular sessions provide both structure and space to strengthen your reflective capacities and develop valuable transdisciplinary skills. Dr. Marie Saade moderates the meetings as a certified coach.
Regular meetings: We begin by meeting bi-weekly, then transition to monthly sessions, all held in an open and supportive atmosphere to discuss challenges, options for action, and new strategies.
Fixed group: Engage with peers from different departments and at various stages of their doctoral journeys to gain support, and inspire mutual motivation. Diverse perspectives, constructive feedback, and encouragement are invaluable resources along the way.
Individual topics: Each meeting is tailored to the needs of the participants so that different topics can be addressed as required. These may include writer's block, conflicts in the working group, procrastination, or anxiety about presenting at your first conference. Together, we work on solutions to questions and challenges that you personally need to clarify, or you can benefit from the group members' perspectives on topics as you plan the rest of your doctoral journey.
Facilitator and Coach
The sessions are hosted by Dr. Marie Saade. She holds a doctorate in cultural anthropology and is a trained coach (IHK). She has many years of professional experience in advising doctoral candidates at BYRD - Bremen Early Career Researcher Development. Here, she hosts writing events and groups and designs a workshop program for the development of transferable skills. Marie is also committed to promoting healthy working practices during the doctoral phase and is a trained mental health first aider (MHFA).
