A learning theory of attachment: Unraveling the black box of attachment
Traditional attachment theory posits that early caregiving experiences shape internal working models, yet the mechanisms remain elusive. This presentation introduces the Learning Theory of Attachment, integrating classical and operant conditioning principles to elucidate how children form expectations about caregiver availability. By examining how consistent or inconsistent caregiver responses serve as cues for safety or threat, we can better understand the development of secure or insecure attachment patterns. This framework not only offers testable hypotheses bridging behavioral and clinical research but also informs the design of targeted interventions. By demystifying the 'black box' of attachment development, we aim to enhance strategies that promote resilience and mental health across developmental stages.?
