Dept. of Global Health represented at the 2nd WHO Global Meeting on skin NTDs

The WHO concluded its second global meeting on skin-related neglected tropical diseases (skin NTDs) last week with an urgent call for more integrated approaches and intensified partnerships to achieve the goals of the NTD Roadmap 2030.

The meeting took place amid continued challenges in global health financing. Anil Fastenau, associated member of the Global Health Department at IPP and PhD student Matthew Willis took part in Geneva and presented 9 posters showcasing different research projects. Over the course of three days, participants highlighted the importance of cross-disease collaboration in delivering effective interventions for skin NTDs. Held from 24 to 26 March under the theme “Integration to Achieve 2030 Targets,” the meeting brought together participants from 97 countries—more than 300 in person and over 800 online. Attendees included representatives from ministries of health, health-care workers, researchers, people with lived experience of NTDs, and partner organizations. Discussions focused on how to integrate skin NTD services into national health systems in order to ensure long-term sustainability and broader health impact.
