Excursion to Lloyd Dynamowerke GmbH: Practice meets theory

On June 21, 2025, the IALB's Department of Electrical Drive Systems and Power Electronics visited Lloyd Dynamowerke GmbH (LDW) in Bremen together with research assistants and students from the Bachelor's lecture Electromagnetic Energy Conversion.
The excursion offered the participants an exciting insight into the industrial practice of electrical power engineering. An informative presentation about the company, its product portfolio and current challenges in the field of electrical drive technology was followed by a two-hour tour of the plant.
On site, the students were able to experience how high-performance electric motors and generators are produced at LDW - from development and production through to quality control. The variety of machines was particularly impressive: from large special motors for shipbuilding to individually manufactured drive solutions for industrial plants.
The excursion enabled the students to link the theoretical content taught in the lecture with real technical applications. Questions about electrical energy conversion, winding types, cooling concepts and inverter connections could be discussed directly in the production environment.
Special thanks go to Lloyd Dynamowerke GmbH for the warm welcome, the technically sound presentation and the exciting factory tour. The excursion was a valuable contribution to practical training in the field of electrical power engineering for everyone involved.
