Infrastructure
At the Institute for Electric Drives, Power Electronics and Components (IALB), experts in electric drives, drive control, power electronics and their components conduct research in close cooperation in two specialist areas: Electric Drives and Power Electronics and Power Electronic Components.
The IALB is a founding member of the BCM (Bremer Centrum für Mechatronik) and a member of the BEST (Bremer Forschungszentrum für Energiesysteme). We also work closely with the Fraunhofer IWES in Bremerhaven.
In the field of electrical drives and power electronics, we deal with the provision of electrical energy from electromechanical energy conversion (generators and motors) to conversion (converters) and monitoring. Our research covers topics such as the design and calculation of electrical machines, the control of drive trains and the development and construction of power electronic converters in conjunction with storage elements (batteries and hydrogen). Our high-performance laboratories at two locations in Bremen and Bremerhaven are a special feature of our institute.
We deal intensively with current and future-oriented topics such as the energy transition and technological change, particularly in the areas of electromobility, aviation and hydrogen. With our in-depth expertise and modern infrastructure, we are involved in challenging projects in collaboration with industry and research.
