Caring Universities: The Care Debate as a Key to a Fair Academic Culture

Wednesday, May 21st - 10:00 to 10:50 AM

The lecture highlights that the issue of care work is not only relevant in terms of balancing academia and family life but also for creating fair and equitable academic structures. To illustrate this, the notion of a supposedly carefree and efficient Homo academicus is contrasted with the concept of a caring university. Building on this comparison, the lecture explores questions of recognition, the representation of care-givers and care-receivers, and the fair distribution of care work within academic institutions.
