MAPEX has shaped and inspired research and innovation in materials and processes in Bremen for more than ten years. At October 8, 2025, his symposium brought together current and former MAPEX members and scientists of their working groups in the Forum at Domshof.
Looking back, moving forward
We looked back at its significant achievements, highlighted ongoing research activities and shared visions for its future. Selected projects from our idea competition showcased the pathways towards new research themes and collaborations. During a podium discussion, experts shared and discussed their visions about “The Next Decade: Strategies for Advancing Innovation in Materials and Processes”.
It was great to look back at successful collaborations and forward to future innovations – including the Matena innovate! Center, the MartianMindset and the MarsLab. Two particular highlights were the sessions dedicated to the Idea Competition. To shape the next generation of collaborative research, two selected teams had the opportunity to present their ideas during the symposium: Bj?rn Lüssem and his team introduced a project on "Circular Electronic Materials for Advanced e-Waste Management". Andreas Rademacher and his team invited participants to explore the topic of "Functionality of Products under Material Uncertainties". We also enjoyed reflecting with Maylin Homfeldt, Robert Mei?ner, Georg Pesch and Evgeniya Kabliman on a diverse range of completed and newly launched MAPEX projects — and the stories behind them.
Forum at Domshof
After a day of scientific exploration in the Forum at Domshof, we invited our participants to join us for a boat cruise dinner, where we were treated to a unique blend of science and art, featuring a scientist's insights into the development of instrument strings and a special musical performance by musicians of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.
Thanks to everyone making the 10th MAPEX Anniversary such a success! We celebrated our birthday with inspiring talks, presentations and discussions – and many valued colleagues who shaped the MAPEX over the years. A special thank you to the organizing committee, invited speakers and podium guests and all participants. It was a great opportunity for reconnecting with the MAPEX community and shaping the future of materials science together.
