Lecture of Professor Dr. Riel?nder at the Journal of Private International Law 20th Anniversary Conference

Frederick Riel?nder presented his lecture ?Towards a Coherent Choice-of-Law Framework for Property Disputes over Digital Assets" at the conference.

Thus, a scholar from the University of Bremen played a key role in the anniversary conference of the Journal of Private International Law.

The Journal of Private International Law 20th Anniversary Conference  took place from September 11-13, 2025, at the Faculty of Law of University College London.

In his presentation, Frederick Riel?nder critically examined the efforts of international organizations (Hague Conference on Private International Law, UNIDROIT) to develop uniform conflict-of-law and international procedural rules for crypto assets and other “digital assets.” Particular attention was paid to the extent to which, and under what conditions, such international frameworks should allow party autonomy in determining the applicable law and international jurisdiction in cross-border disputes involving crypto assets, virtual assets, etc., and which objective connecting factors could be applied in the absence of a choice of law.
