End of support for Windows 10

The IT Service Center (Dezernat 8) is carrying out a coordinated changeover to Windows 11 for the administrative workstations it manages. Faculties that are responsible for their own IT support must ensure the secure operation of their devices.

Support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, after which Microsoft will no longer provide free updates and security fixes for Windows 10 (end of Windows 10 support), which the simplest case means that only operating system needs to be updated to Windows 11. However, it may also be necessary to replace the hardware. The IT Service Center (Dezernat 8) is carrying out a coordinated changeover to Windows 11 for the administrative workstations it manages. Information pertaining to the specific measures will be forthcoming.

Faculties that are responsible for their own IT support must ensure the secure operation of their devices, either by migrating to Windows 11 or - from November on- by participating in the Microsoft ESU (Extended Security Updates) program for Windows 10. This means that the support period for Win10 will be extended by one year for a fee. The faculties must take responsibility for this themselves. ESU licenses can be purchased either directly from Microsoft (e.g. via the volume license contract of the University of Bremen) or from your partner, for example an EA reseller or CSP partner. Faculties without their own IT support can request support for Windows 11 migration via the central service desk (servicedeskprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de) at the IT Service Center (Dezernat 8).
