Research Topics Reaction Engineering

In reaction engineering, the focus is on the development of novel processes for chemical energy conversion and storage. Therefore, we use and develop methods from computational fluid dynamics (CFD), nuclear magentic resonance and magentic resonance imaging (NMR/MRI) and instrumental alalytics (mass spectrospcopy, gas chromotography).

(Reactive) Fluid simulations in catalytic reactors

We use reactive CFD simulations and operando MRI to investigate local reaction conditions in optically inaccessible reactors.

NMR analysis of mass transport in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is a process for producing long-chain hydrocarbons from synthesis gas (CO and H2). This enables the production of clean-burning kerosene and diesel that are not based on petroleum. In this project, we are investigating how to improve the mass transport of the product mixtures for a more efficient process.
