Inaugural Logistics Lecture: Senator Vogt Visits the University of Bremen

Senator Vogt visited the University of Bremen for Logistics Professor Matthias Klumpp's inaugural lecture and emphasized the importance of logistics for the state and Bremen city as a business hub.

Professor Matthias Klumpp is joining the University of Bremen's Faculty of Business Studies & Economics as the new Professor of Retail and Logistics Management. In his inaugural lecture, entitled “Logistics by and for People" (“Logistik von und für Menschen”), the business economist highlighted the central role of people in collaboration with modern technology in logistics.

Professor Klumpp emphasized that despite advancing digitalization and the use of robotics and artificial intelligence, humans play a key role as strategic and supervisory authorities in logistics. One example of this is the Retail Logistics & Innovation Lab research project, which is being carried out jointly with the REWE Group and the universities of G?ttingen and Darmstadt. Among other things, the project is developing practical approaches to improve working conditions in retail logistics.

Kristina Vogt, Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports, and Transformation, emphasized the special importance of logistics for the state of Bremen: “As a central hub for all goods flows – especially around the ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven – logistics is a decisive location factor. We very much welcome the University of Bremen's commitment in this area.”

With the new professorship and its links to excellent research networks, the University of Bremen is further strengthening its logistics research.
