(Online) Language cafés

Are you a student who would like to practice your spoken language skills and refresh what you already know? Would you like to chat with others in a relaxed atmosphere, exchange ideas and opinions with them? Then why not drop in to one of the language cafés we are offering this semester?

Because here it's all about one thing: Talking, talking, talking :-)

There are cafés in the Language Resource Center at the University of Bremen, in the Language Resource Center at Hochschule Bremerhaven and also online cafés!

Participation is free of charge.

Start of the cafés: The cafés usually start in the 2nd week of the lecture period, i.e. from October 20, 2025.

End of the cafés: at the end of the lecture period in January 2026

Who can participate in language cafés?

Our language cafés are a peer-to-peer offering: they are led by student moderators and are primarily aimed at students from Bremen's four public universities.

Prospective students, interns, and volunteers who work in the university environment are also welcome to participate.

For anyone else interested in learning languages, we offer a diverse regular course program. An overview of all courses can be found here

    How to register

You want to spontaneously come to the language café? No problem! You can always just drop by and walk in.

    Nevertheless, we recommend two things:

    1. Come as often and as regularly as you can – it's good for the group dynamic in the café and also improves your language skills :-)
    2. If you would like to visit a language café at the university, then join the Moodle course for the café of your choice.

Advantages of the Moodle course room:

    • you can find a lot more information about the café there (moderator, topics, organizational information, Zoom links (for virtual language cafés))
    • you can use Moodle to get in touch with the tutor or to contact other participants in the café

    Access to Moodle

    1. Do you already have an account for the SZHB Moodle learning platform?
Then go to SZHB-Moodle, log in with your current account details, navigate to Language Cafés & Tutorials in the course area and register for the café of your choice.

    2. You don't have an account for the SZHB Moodle learning platform yet?
Then register here for the language cafés. Shortly before the cafés start, you will receive Moodle access from us and can then register independently for the café of your choice.

Please note: The cafés at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences do not use Moodle. There are no restrictions: just drop in and have fun!
