The student competition at the University of Giessen with participance from universities throughout Germany simulates a civil law trial at the District Court of Giessen. All teams were initially asked to submit a statement of claim or a statement of defense. Based on the submitted briefs the eight teams with the best written submissions compete against each other in oral proceedings in the second part of the competition.
On Wednesday, 23 July 2025, the oral hearings will become serious for the four teams of the University of Bremen. This is because the oral hearings will be held in the knockout-modus right from the start. Whoever wins a round will advance to the next round. Each semi-final and the final will take place on Thursday, 24 July 2025. From the semi-finals onwards, there is another special feature at the Justus-Liebig Moot Court. The case that the written submissions were prepared for will no longer be negotiated, but a modified set of facts. The students will, therefore, face the challenge of negotiating an unfamiliar case with only a short preparation period.
The topic – a negotiated and contract concluded by generative artificial intelligence – will, however, remain the same in all hearings. In the original case, a used car dealer was represented by generative AI in the contract negotiations and conclusion for the purchase of a vintage car without the knowledge of a private car seller and now wants to withdraw from the contract because the generative AI made an error in calculating the appropriate purchase price.
The teams of the university of Bremen will compete against students from Marburg and Constance. The last quarterfinal will be a duel between two teams of the Faculty of Law at the University of Bremen. The proceedings will be conducted by a three-member chamber consisting of the judge at the Federal Court of Justice, Prof. Dr. Patrick G?dicke, a representative of the Frankfurt Bar Association, attorney Tanja V. Pfitzner, LL.M. and Prof. Dr. Martin Gutzeit from the University of Giessen.
This year, the teams of the University of Bremen are coached by Dr. Sandra Gerdes, LL.M., with support from Tobias Pinkel, LL.M. The faculty of law congratulates Claudius Maximilian Dirks, Bleron Mehmeti, Julia Olszewska, Makan Sabet-Daylami, S?zdar Seker, Lucas Welte and Arap Ali Yilmaz on reaching the quarterfinals of the Justus Liebig Moot Court and wishes them every success in the oral proceedings.
