Dr. Ewa Burwicz-Galerne

DSC Associate Member

FB 05: Center for Marine Environmental Sciences

Paleoceanography

Member of MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences

Competencies

Coupling ocean circulation with sedimentary models; global element budgets; deep
neural networks; basin analysis; transport-reaction modeling of porous media flow.

Short Profile

Ewa Burwicz-Galerne received her diploma in geology in 2009 from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland and her Dr. phil. nat. degree in geosciences in 2015 from the Christian-Albrechts Universit?t in Kiel, Germany. She has developed and used multiple mathematical models to provide insights into the Earth’s geosystems. Since 2017, she has been incorporating machine learning and data science methods into physical models.

In December 2020, she has joined the paleoceanography research group of Heiko P?like at Faculty 5 – Geosciences at the University of Bremen and became a member of MARUM – Center for Environmental Research. Her work at the Cluster of Excellence ‘The Ocean Floor’ aims at embedding data science methods into marine geoscience. Her current work focuses on quantifying and providing new global estimates of key element fluxes across the seabed using deep neural networks.
