Gender equality and diversity in teaching

Diversity-Sensitive Didactics

Multicolored highlighters lie on multicolored paper.

Gender- and diversity-consciousness in teaching aims to enable all students to successfully participate in the learning process. The basic prerequisite for this is a professional attitude on the part of the teaching staff that consciously rejects a deficit-orientated view and takes individual and differentiated account of students' personal situations with an appreciative and interested attitude. Further information on university didactics, on gender diversity teaching at the FU Berlin and a toolbox from the University of Frankfurt and can be found here.

eGeneral Studies "Diversity Competencies" (3 CPs)

The video-based online course "Diversity Competencies" aims to sensitise students from all disciplines to social dimensions of inequality, power and discrimination. In 13 chapters (with 2-3 episodes each) on various aspects of diversity (including gender, social background, ethnicity and "race"), a total of 26 renowned academics discuss the topic from various research perspectives

The course is part of the University of Bremen's General Studies programme and was designed as a purely online format. In order to receive credit points (3CPs), students complete the course with an electronic exam at the University of Bremen's test centre. The programme is aimed at all students who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in line with their individual and heterogeneous learning requirements; however, it is also open to all other interested parties.

The course was created with as few barriers as possible and is available in German, English and German Sign Language.
